Veterans Affairs Medical Center Inpatient & Outpatient Rehabilitation Center

This multi-phase addition expanded the rehabilitation department by adding a second story to the existing hospital. The transformation makes place for a higher level of care and aims to bring together patient, family, providers and community like never before. The addition is in a highly accessible location on the east side of the Medical Center campus and allows staff specialists to assist veterans with rehabilitation, evaluation and counseling services that promote independent living needs and improved health. The TSA design team successfully applied specialized healthcare planning and design to improve inpatient therapy with spaces such as PT/OT therapy, OP Rehab, gait lab, and therapy pools to ensure continuity and fulfillment of the ever-improving Salt Lake based Medical Center for higher quality patient experiences.

In the second phase of construction, a dedicated entry to the newly aggregated Rehabilitation and Prosthetics programs gives this patient population a one-stop destination for their continuum of care. The daylight and expansive views to Wasatch Mountains to the east are brought in through glazed consultation offices, transparent hallways, open clinic and shared spaces at the core. The vibrancy of life inside and out of the Center is celebrated beautifully on the hospital campus, creating a beckoning place where healing can be optimized.
